CRAN'S WACKY WORLD

Cran's Favorite 60s Supermodel: Jean Shrimpton

Jean Shrimpton was one of the most influential models of the 1960s. She was considered by many to be the first true "supermodel." She was discovered by British photographer David Bailey (one of the major fashion photographers of the 60s). She first appeared on the cover of Vogue in April of '62. During the decade she was one-third of the internationally famous triumvirate of Twiggy, Veruschka, and Shrimpton, although she was famous before the other two. Elle magazine dubbed her "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" and Glamour magazine named her Model of the Year in '63. She appeared in one film, 1967's Privilege.

When Jean was on a promotional tour in 1967 she came to Portland, Oregon where Cran was a student at Lewis and Clark College. Cran, who was working as a photographer for the college paper, met and interviewed Jean. Needless to say, this was one of the highlights of his college career.
